It is our duty to enact policies that promote education, innovation, and equitable opportunities for all. “We strive to create an environment where the youth can thrive and where their aspirations can be realized. Your success is a testament to the effectiveness of such policies and the enduring partnership between our government and educational institutions,” Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana said.

He addressed the gathering as a chief guest at the convocation ceremony of Kaatsu International University (KIU) on Sunday (27).

The Minister further said: It is with great pleasure and a sense of profound responsibility that I stand before you today as the Transport and Highways plus Mass Media Minister, addressing this gathering at the convocation ceremony of KIU. This occasion marks a significant milestone in the journey of our graduates, a journey filled with dedication, perseverance, and a thirst for knowledge.

To the graduating class, I offer my warmest congratulations for your impressive accomplishment, as an educator whose name holds significance across the entire nation. Your hard work and determination have brought you to this moment, and it is truly an honour to witness the transformation that you have undergone during your time at KIU.

As you venture into the realm outside these confines, you bear not just the qualifications you’ve attained but also the principles and perspectives that will mould your forthcoming pursuits.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education”. Your education here at KIU has equipped you with critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and a broadened perspective that are essential in addressing the challenges of our time. Our nation looks to you, the educated youth, to be the driving force behind positive change and progress.

As a Member of Parliament, I am acutely aware of the responsibilities and aspirations that rest upon our shoulders. It is our duty to enact policies that promote education, innovation, and equitable opportunities for all. We strive to create an environment where the youth can thrive and where their aspirations can be realized. Your success is a testament to the effectiveness of such policies and the enduring partnership between our government and educational institutions.

A Global Mindset

In today’s interconnected world, where borders blur and ideas transcend geographical boundaries, it is essential to cultivate a global mindset. I am pleased to note that KIU has embraced international collaborations, fostering relationships with esteemed institutions and nations around the world, including our valued partners in Japan.

Such collaborations not only enhance the quality of education but also strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between nations.

As you move forward, I urge you to be catalysts for positive change. Embrace your role as responsible citizens who are not only focused on personal achievements but also dedicated to the well-being of the larger community. The challenges we face – be they related to climate change, social inequality, or technological disruption – require your passion, creativity, and commitment to finding innovative solutions.

In closing, I extend my gratitude to KIU leaders and faculty members for their dedication and hard work in nurturing these remarkable graduates. Your contribution to their education is immeasurable, and the impact of your guidance will be felt for generations to come.

To the graduates, I offer my heartfelt congratulations once again. As you embark on this new chapter, remember that your education is a lifelong journey. Continue to seek knowledge, embrace diversity, and champion the values that define a compassionate and progressive society.

Thank you and may you all go forth to achieve greatness in your chosen paths.
