The 76th anniversary of the United National Party (UNP) and the party convention will be held with the participation of a large crowd this year, party General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara said.
He expressed confidence that a large crowd would gather in Colombo on that day.
Range Bandara said that the party convention will be held on September 10 at 2.00 pm in front of the Lake House building under the patronage of party leader President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He also said that the new constitution of the party will be approved there. Range Bandara went on to say that the amended party constitution will be presented to the party Working Committee before that.
The party leader President Ranil Wickremesinghe is slated to address the party convention and members of many political parties and groups are planning to join the United National Party on that day.
The party General Secretary further said that the UNP will move forward with a new face after this party convention by implementing the system change expected by the public during the struggle.
The UNP General Secretary added that the party has established 154 new Bala Mandala organisations countrywide injecting new life into the party.
