The Colombo Colts Cricket Club, a renowned institution with a rich history, is all set to celebrate its remarkable 150th anniversary in a spectacular fashion. The club will mark this momentous occasion by hosting the eagerly awaited All Island Invitational Nine-A-Side Hockey Tournament. The event is scheduled to take place on August 19 and 20 at the Police Grounds in Bambalapitiya, and the matches are slated to run from 8 am to 6 pm.
With enthusiasm and anticipation building up, a total of thirty-eight teams have been drafted to participate in this carnival extravaganza over the weekend.
Among the participating teams, twenty-eight will compete in the men’s division, which has been further divided into ‘A’ Division and ‘B’ Division. The nine women’s teams will compete as a separate category. The men’s ‘A’ Division will see fierce competition among notable teams such as Army, Old Senanayakians ‘A’, Gymkhana, Police, Old Nalandians ‘A’, Old Benedictine ‘A’, Wennappuwa, Matara, BRC ‘A’, Air Force, CH & FC ‘A’, and RCHC ‘A’.
Meanwhile, the ‘B’ Division of the men’s tournament features an equally impressive lineup, including teams like Colts, Colombo Malays, Old Asokians, Old Benedictine ‘B’, Old Senanayakians ‘B’, Old Anandians, Young Ladies, CH & FC ‘B’, RCHC ‘B’, KDU, Old Joes, Old Nalandians ‘B’, CR & FC, BRC ‘B’, and Old President’s.
In the women’s division, nine teams are set to compete for glory. The line-up consists of Army, Wennappuwa, CR & FC, Young Ladies, Navy, Air Force, Colts, KDU, and Old Balikans. Their participation promises to add an extra layer of excitement to the event.
