The adjournment debate on the mid-year financial status (2023) report will be held in Parliament today (8). This debate will be held according to a proposal brought by the ruling party. The Committee on Parliamentary Affairs met last week under the leadership of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and the parliamentary affairs for this week was decided upon.
Accordingly, the debate on the second reading of the Betting and Gambling Tax (Amendment) Bill will be held on August 9 and the adjournment debate on the socio-economic problems faced by the estate community will be held next day (10). Parliament is scheduled to meet from today (8) to Friday (11) and time set aside for questions requiring oral answers, on all four days.
Also, six draft Bills are scheduled to be presented today. (Amendment of Inland Revenue Act, Amendment of Social Security Contribution Tax Act No. 25 of 2022, Amendment of Social Security Contribution Tax, Establishment of a Trust by the name of Sri Lanka Axi Bank Trust, Amendment of the Civil Procedure Code, Election Special Provisions) extension of time limit to submit an election petition and increase in fines are also scheduled to be presented today.
