Zahira College, Katugastota has made history by becoming the first Muslim school to win the prestigious Herbert Embuldeniya Challenge Trophy at the School Boxing Championships. The tournament, jointly hosted by the Sri Lanka Amateur Boxing Association and School Boxing Association under the Education Ministry’s guidance, concluded at Seevali College Boxing Gymnasium in Ratnapura.
A record-breaking 701 school pugilists from across the nation participated in the five-day championship, marking the highest number of boxers in Sri Lanka’s boxing history.
Zahira College’s junior boys secured two gold medals and one bronze medal, securing the Herbert Embuldeniya Challenge Trophy in the Overall Junior Boys Championships.
In the 63-66kg weight category, MF Mohomed claimed a well-deserved gold medal, while GM Azar dominated the 66-70kg weight category, also winning a gold medal. A Mubasshir clinched the bronze medal in the fiercely contested 54-57kg weight category. MM Mujahith emerged as the Best Boxer in the Senior School Boys Championship, further adding to Zahira College’s accolades.
