Mihintale Police stated that, when a soldier was travelling with his wife on a motorcycle two men who had come from behind them, also on a motorcycle had snatched the gold chain from his wife’s neck and vanished on their motorbike. This robbery had taken place on Tuesday (01) evening opposite the Mihintale Divisional Secretariat.
The soldier had stated in his complaint made to the Mihintale Police that the gold chain was worth Rs.225,000. A senior Police officer said that the couple are residents of Kebithigollewa and the robbery had taken place while they were returning from Anuradhapura on Poya day, subsequent to a pilgrimage.
