Keselwatte Police yesterday (2) arrested three Police Constables working in the Police Cavalry Division who were drunk and riotous and assaulting a person in Keselwatte, Colombo.
Residents of the area told the Police officers who were on night duty at the road block near Keselwatta Bodhirukkarama temple that three drunk people were brutally assaulting a person. Accordingly, the Police officers who were in roadblock duty went to the nearby Akbar Lane to investigate. There, the Police officers saw that three drunk people were attacking a person.
When the Police officers tried to control them, they started a conflict with the Police officers too. Accordingly, these three suspects were arrested and presented to the Judicial Medical Officer. Tests confirmed that the three persons were drunk.
A senior Police officer said that these Police officers have recently joined the Police. The Assistant Superintendent of Police of Colombo Central Division yesterday (2) took steps to suspend the three constables who had been arrested.
