Whilst highlighting that the price at which the Government is buying paddy is unsatisfactory, especially at a time of drought, ruling party MP Namal Rajapaksa said the SLPP Parliamentary Group will take this matter up with the Government’s top brass soon.
“Farmers are hit by drought. The Government should focus on paying compensation to them. Their produce is bought by the Government. However, the price paid to them is far from being adequate. We will take this matter up when the SLPP Parliamentary Group meets next time,” the MP said at the SLPP Bala Mandala meeting in Hiriyala.
“We intervened to resolve the issues pertaining to the Aswesuma welfare benefit. The matters pertaining to it are said to be reviewed. We are closely monitoring this matter,” he said.
“We will always intervene on behalf of the people,” the SLPP MP said.
