The Ampara Police arrested two including a soldier, who had assaulted a Sub-Inspector and a Police Constable of the Ampara Division Criminal Investigation Sector who were on security duty at a grounds where a carnival had been held at the M.M. Weerasinghe Stadium on Monday (31).
A Police officer said that when the police personnel had tried to settle a dispute between two groups at the carnival grounds, a drunken group had attacked the two police officers. The two police officers injured in this attack had been admitted to the Ampara Hospital. The Ampara Police, who investigated the assault, arrested two people who had been involved.
One of the suspects is a 32-year-old army soldier residing in Suduwella Ampara. The other is a 23-year-old resident of Samapura Ampara. Police said investigations are underway to arrest several other people involved in this attack.
