A mobile Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant built by the Sri Lanka Navy for the Police Special Task Force (STF) contingent scheduled to join United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, was formally handed over to STF at its Training School in Katukurunda on July 25, 2023.

The project was initiated at the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and under the coordination of Defence Ministry and Public Security Ministry. The Navy and STF entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard on December 29, 2022. Accordingly, the Research and Development Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy fabricated this mobile RO system in a 20 feet shipping container and this RO plant is capable of providing 60 tons of safe drinking water per day. As a result of the engineering excellence of the Research and Development Unit, this facility was built at a significantly lower cost compared to other commercial RO plants available in the market.

This occasion was also attended by Senior Co-ordinator of Naval Social Responsibility Project, Commander Buddhika Randimal and a group of officers from the Police Special Task Force.
