Sixteen students of the Kadawathgama Maha Vidyalaya were injured in a wasp attack and admitted to the Medawachchiya Base Hospital by school authorities.

One student who is in a critical condition due to the wasp attack had been transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital by hospital authorities.

About 620 students study at the Kadawathgama Maha Vidyalaya which belongs to the Kebithigollewa Education Zone Office and is located in the area of authority of the Medawachchiya Division Education Office. A spokesman of the school responding to our inquiry said there had been a wasp nest in a Tamarind tree located at the school for a very long time and due to the fact that no proper action had been carried out by way of a solution, the students had been attacked.

The wasps had attacked the students yesterday (27) at about 1.30 pm. At that time, students had been leaving the school after the school session. Information has been reported that students who were not subject to a severe attack had gone home as well.
