The Magistrate of Colombo Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court has issued a order preventing the protest that was scheduled to be held at Peliyagoda Manning Market today.

This order has been issued after considering the facts presented to the Magistrate’s Court yesterday by the Police Inspector of Peliyagoda Police Station.

The General Trade Association at Peliyagoda Manning Market had decided to engage in a strike action today alleging that the stalls in the market are being given to outsiders.

The Police have filed a complaint in the Magistrate’s Court that the strike may cause public distress. Accordingly, the relevant order has been issued to the members including the Chairman and Secretary of the Manning Market General Trade Association.

The Magistrate’s order also states that the police have the ability to prosecute protestors under Section 106 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code if the protest is carried out despite the prohibitory order and that violating the Court order is an offence punishable under Section 185 of the Penal Code.
