Three persons succumbed when a large tree suddenly fell on the premises of Gampalage Motors garage at the intersection of Amalagoda in Akuressa. The large tree, fell to the garage premises on Saturday 22 at around 10.45 pm due to the high wind that blew over the area that day.
A.H.Amaradasa (73) of Akuressa, Malawa, who came to repair a vehicle and stayed there died in the same place.Buddhika Paranavithana (28), resident of Yakabedda area working in the garage, died after being admitted to the Matara General Hospital.
49-year-old Sujeeva Sampath, a resident of Nupe, Matara, who was admitted to Galle, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with serious injuries, died later. The owner of the garage, Nadira Kumara Gampalage, who was seriously injured in the accident, and Sugath Ediriweera, who stayed in the garage, are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Galle, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
On the instructions of Akuressa Police OIC Chief Inspector S.S. Jayaweera, officers of the Akuressa Police Station conducted investigations and got the assistance of the officers of the Matara Criminal Investigation Department (SOCO). Akuressa Division Coroner Anura Premasiri conducted the autopsy.
