A Malaysian businessman, who has been banned from traveling abroad by the court in connection with a money fraud of Rs.7.4 million, was arrested last Friday (21) by the officers of the Immigration Department’s Katunayake Airport Unit and handed over to the Katunayake Airport Police. This Malaysian was arrested while returning from Malaysia.

This businessman has said during the police questioning that on last Tuesday (18), the Fort Magistrate’s Court has given an order removing his foreign travel ban, and so he went to Malaysia and was arrested on his return.

He has also submitted a court order to Police officers removing the ban on foreign travel and Katunayake Airport Police has taken steps to hand over the suspect to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau as there was a discrepancy between the number of the foreign passport mentioned in the order and the number of the foreign passport he had.

During an investigation, the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau found that this person was using two passports. The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau stated that there are complaints against this Malaysian regarding a money fraud of Rs.7 million and a money fraud of Rs.7.4 million.
