An Action Committee was formed to re-employ those affected by the economic crisis at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday under the patronage of Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara and Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake.

This committee led by the Labour and Foreign Employment Promotion Ministry Secretary, consists of Secretaries of Education, Finance, Tourism, Fisheries, Transport, Plantation and Industry Ministries.

A tripartite committee was appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe when he was Prime Minister and this committee had developed a strategy aimed at re-employing those who have been impacted by the economic crisis.

The Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing this strategy to re-employ those who were impacted by the economic crisis.

A request had also been made to the International Labour Organization seeking technical assistance for the implementation of this strategy. Accordingly the ILO has conducted a survey and its report has been handed over to the Ministry.

This committee has also been tasked to implement the long, middle and short term solutions identified by it. Accordingly, the areas where there will be more job opportunities in future will be identified and programmes are being prepared to prepare employees for such employments to fulfill recruitment criteria.
