Police arrested a criminal who had escaped from prison 10 years ago and engaged in housebreaking and theft. Gampaha Division Criminal Investigation Bureau said that he had escaped while he was in the Pallekelle open-air prison.
During the questioning of this suspect, who was arrested yesterday (18) on suspicion by the officers of the Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau in Ulagama, Gampaha, he revealed that he had escaped from the open prison. The suspect is a 47-year-old resident of Lihiniyawa, Meegahathenna. He escaped from prison on May 24, 2013.
The investigation has revealed that this suspect, who is registered by Veyangoda police station as an Island Registered Criminal (IRC) is involved in housebreaking and theft. During questioning, the suspect revealed information about a housebreaking and property theft that took place in the Gampaha police division. The suspect was produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court and remanded yesterday (19).
