Sri Lanka ‘A’ team made fine team effort to beat Oman ‘A’ by 217 runs in their ACC men’s Emerging Asia Cup cricket fixture played at R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium yesterday. With this win Sri Lanka A having 4 points with 2 wins recorded highest net run rate 1.693 also finished top of the group entered the semi finals. Bangladesh ‘A’ beat Afghanistan ‘A’ yesterday was in second place (1.263net run rate) and will be the second team to enter semis. India ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’ having 2 wins each most probably will qualify for semi finals.
At the day night affair yesterday Oman ‘A’ chasing a target of 260 runs were bowled out for 42 in 17.1 overs. Chamika Karunaratne was the pick of the bowler taking 3 for 3 in 2 overs while skipper Dunith Wellalage, Promod Madushan and Lahiru Samarakoon took 2 wickets each.
Earlier Sri Lanka ‘A’ invited to bat first made 259 for 8 wickets in 50 overs. The openers Avishka Fernando (25) and Lasith Croospulle (43) put up a solid stand of 55 runs in 10.3 overs while Pasindu Sooriyabandara top scored 60 in 75 balls with 5 fours. Sahan Arachchige hit 48 and skipper Dunith Wellalage 21 made useful contributions. Aqib Ilyas bowled best for Oman ‘A’ taking 4 for 58. Pasindu Sooriyabandara was the Man of the Match.
