Man climbs roof at Kurunegala courts claiming injustice

A person accused of selling illicit liquor yesterday climbed onto the roof of the Kurunegala Court Complex and protested claiming that he faced injustice. Court proceedings were also suspended temporarily as he was was removing tiles from the roof. Later the police brought him down from the roof with the help of a crane and took him into custody. He is a 39-year-old coconut plucker residing in Melsiripura.

It is reported that he had previously climbed a telecom tower in Dambulla area and a Bo-tree in front of the Gokarella police raising various issues from time to time. It is also reported that this person, who climbed onto the roof had been fined Rs.56,000 for the offense of drunk driving but was unable to pay the fine.
