SP under probe for threatening CID ASP over inquiry

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) lodged a complaint with the Colombo Fort Police stating that a Superintendent of Police (SP) who is abroad had threatened him on WhatsApp using rude words and cursed his family vowing to take revenge.

Police information revealed that this SP had been working in the CID for sometime and was recently attached to Police CCTV Surveillance Division. But the information stated that this officer has been working in connection with a technical project of the Police Human Resources Division.

Police information disclosed that the Accountant of the CID has given written notice to the Deputy Inspector General of CID regarding the misappropriation of money related to procuring fuel from the police fuel station in Narahenpita subject to the monthly fuel allocation for the private car used by this officer.

Since it happened during the period when he was working in the CID, the Deputy Inspector General of CID started an investigation into it. The threatened ASP is in charge of the investigation.

This ASP recorded a statement from the SP before he left the country for a long vacation abroad.

According to the investigation file, the Deputy Inspector General of the CID has also taken disciplinary action against this SP for misusing government funds.

Because of this, the SP scolded and threatened the ASP who conducted an investigation against him.The CID ASP has further stated in his complaint to the Police that he was scared because the SP said he would take revenge on him and his family. He further mentioned that he had felt unpleasant and disgusted due to the verbal abuse.
