The Attanagalla Magistrate yesterday ordered that a suspected Constable who allegedly broke into the lockers of the Police officers at the Mirigama Police station and stole money and goods be remanded until July 27.
The Mirigama Police arrested the suspected Constable in connection with an incident in which he allegedly stole Rs.19,000 and a pair of sunglasses from the locker belonging to another Policeman. A Police Sergeant told in Courts that while an investigation was being conducted on the above incident the suspect Police constable was also found responsible for secretly unlocking another Police officer’s locker.
The Police Sergeant said that two T-56 live bullets, two practice bullets and one pistol bullet were found in his travel bag and in addition to that, a permit issued for the delivery of goods to the Government Analyst’s office was also seized from his possession. The Sergeant also mentioned that the investigations on the suspect have not been completed.
