Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa requested civil organizations and Opposition Party representatives to raise a collective voice demanding an election soon.
The present government has postponed the Local Government elections by giving various false reasons, the Opposition Leader said.
He added that the government is trying to recall the representatives of the Local Government bodies that have been dissolved using anti-democratic manoeuvres. Premadasa said that a parliamentarian brought forward a proposal to recall members of Local Government bodies that have already been dissolved disregarding the democratic norms and practices in the country. “This proposal was seconded by MP Sanjeewa Edirimanna. However we are happy with regard to the position held by the Attorney General in this regard,” the Opposition Leader said.
