Police locate 212 returnees hiding in Nikaweratiya

Puttalam District Secretary Chandrasiri Bandara told the media that 1,411 Sri Lankans had returned to Sri Lanka from different countries during the past two weeks and all of them living in the Puttalam District at present are found not to have been medically checked up to verify whether they are vectors of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Nikaweratiya SSP Upul Chandana Abeysinghe told the Daily News that search operations

conducted within 11 Police areas in the Nikaweratiya Police Division in the Kurunegala District have detected 212 persons had returned from abroad last week in hiding and that all of them have not been medically checked to establish whether they are free of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

“Therefore, residents in the Kurunegala District have been instructed by Police to immediately notify if they know about persons who are intentionally hiding or evading the quarantine process. He said that all PHIs and Grama Niladharis are now legally empowered to arrest such persons who are in hiding in order to prevent quarantine process.
