‘Kudu Anju’s close associate arrested with Rs.10 Mn worth drugs

The Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Task Force said that a person was arrested with nearly Rs.10 million worth of drugs from a luxurious two-storied house in Welmilla, Bandaragama.

The suspect is considered as a close associate of Ratmalana Kudu Anju, who was arrested by the Police in France. Investigations have identified him as one of the main drug traffickers in the country from a drug network operating from Dubai.

Police also seized 497 grams of Heroin and 130 grams of the drug ‘Ice’ from his possession. The raid was carried out after a lengthy investigation based on information received by the Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Task Force regarding the suspect who had been staying at a rented out two-storey luxury house in Welmilla, Bandaragama.

A Police officer said that the suspect had at that time was preparing a parcel of drugs to be handed over to a person and if they had been delayed for a few more minutes, the raid would have failed.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect has distributed narcotics from this house to a number of areas such as Mount Lavinia, Ratmalana, Piliyandala, Bandaragama and Panadura. It has been revealed during the Police investigation that the suspect, who works as a driver of a freight company attached to the port, has lived a luxurious life through drug trafficking and that he has been operating this racket by staying on rental basis for very short periods of time in various areas. Police said that the suspect brings drugs to the house and then and distributes it to main agents in the respective areas on instructions given to him by ‘Kudu Anju’ from Dubai through WhatsApp technology.

Police said that information has been revealed that the suspect has been prohibited from dealing with money and identifying people involved with drug trafficking in the country.

The Police said that the drug parcels are placed near electricity poles and transformers in different areas on the instructions given to him. The 34-year-old suspect who is a resident of Weerawila is to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
