Dubai: Several prominent Russian tour operators/agents in the UAE, who represent VVIPs, celebrities, and wealthy business magnates, are interested in parking their luxury jets in Sri Lanka while they vacation in the Maldives or Seychelles.

Due to space constraints at the airports in the Maldives and Seychelles, these clients cannot store their private jets at those locations, and the jets and security personnel must fly back to the Gulf countries and remain there until the owner’s holiday is over.

Chairman of HNC Shipping UAE, a sea and air freight operator and logistics provider based in UAE Preadeep Nanayakkara, has proposed Mattala International Airport (MRIA) as an alternative parking destination for these jets and accommodation for security personnel in hotels in the Deep South. He has contacted Russian operators/agents representing these clients and suggested liaising with Sri Lankan authorities to gain approvals and commence the operation.

Nanayakkara believes this initiative will bring in additional revenue to MIRA through refueling and hangar charges and the clients’ large security detail will patronize star-class hotels, boosting tourism revenue in the region.

Nanayakkara, who has been based in the UAE for the past two decades and assists with business registrations and investments for Sri Lankans in the UAE, is promoting tourism and investment in his motherland as a way to give back.
