The contribution of cruise liners towards strengthening the tourism sector will be developed and well utilized, Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

He made this remark following the recent arrival of the Norwegian-owned Viking Cruises liner’s ‘Viking Neptune’, a super luxury cruise ship, at the Port of Colombo (POC), marking a significant occasion.

Viking Neptune arrived at the POC with 847 passengers on board.

The vessel made Colombo an ideal destination for her passengers to visit several hotspots in the island including the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Kandy and other tourist locations. Marking the arrival, plaques were exchanged between Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Keith D. Bernard and the vessel’s Master, Captain Lars Juel, onboard the vessel.

The last port of call for the vessel was Penang, Malaysia, with Cochin, India, being the next port of call.

Lanka Shipping and Logistics (Pvt) Ltd acts the local agent for the vessel.
