“I want to play all three formats in cricket and we have to adjust for any type of game,’’ said Kamindu Mendis, the promising cricketer who is a key member of the Kandy Falcons team at this LPL cricket tournament.

Apart from his talent to bowl with both arms, and being an all-rounder, he is also an able top-order batsman who can play long innings. Mendis, a former Richmondian and National under 19 skipper, said: “We have to adjust to any position in the batting order. I used to open the batting or come at number three for my school team.”

Kamindu’s first club team was Chilaw Marians. He currently plays for CCC.

“I have the confidence to play at any position in the batting order. The batting approach between number one to seven has different challenges, but we have to adapt to the situation of the game,” said Mendis.

“The Pallekele wicket this time is a bit slow compared to the early days, but we can adjust to playing our game on this wicket. Especially my role is to play at number three. When the openers give a good start for the team, I can continue their good form without any pressure. Often, when the openers get out early in the innings, I have to take up the task and never build up any pressure during this stage,” said Kamindu.

“I played my Test debut against Australia in Galle, my hometown, and I scored 60 runs. That’s cricket. I have to wait for my time and I believe that I have performed well and hope to represent the National team again very soon,” he added.
