Sri Lanka women’s team led by Chamari Atapattu will meet Thailand in their Asia Cup T-20 cricket tournament today (4) at the Sylhet International cricket Stadium Bangladesh.

Sri Lankan lasses started with defeat by the India in their opening game while their second game Sri Lanka fought back strongly to win the game by 11 runs (D/L method) against UAE at the same venue.

Sri Lankan women’s head coach Hashan Tillekaratne said to the Daily News Sri Lankan batters are not up to the expectations so far in this tournament and hope to improve their batting in next matches. Actually we have a better bowling side than the batting but this T-20 format Sri Lankan batters have to come back with runs. If we can put up a challenging score we could have easily beat any team and it is important the way we approach the game in Bangladesh conditions.

Our players have good potential and they have to apply it on the pitch and match situations, added former Sri Lankan skipper Hashan Tillekaratne.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Atapattu was not among the runs during first two games while opener Harshitha Samarawickrama was the most successful scorer who also won the Player of the Match award at the last UAE game. Meanwhile Thailand who beat Sri Lanka last year once again expected to repeat their heroics today.

Pakistan and India both having four points each so far in this tournament are laying on first and second players while Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are third and fourth places with two points each. UAE, Thailand and Malaysia couldn’t record a single victory and are laying on 5, 6, 7 places at the points table.
