Five suspects, who allegedly hacked a 83-year-old woman, while the person whom they planned to kill was not at home, have been arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police.

Suspects were the residents of Rattanwatta Economic Apartment Complex at Mount Lavinia.

The police also found two trishaws, seven sharp manna knives and a locally made hand grenade with the suspects.

A dispute between two groups has caused this incident and the leader of one of these factions lives abroad and had planned to kill one of his opponents living in Sri Lanka to celebrate his birthday, police said.

According to that, he has planned to conduct the murder from abroad and first of all, he has organized a party for his friends at a famous restaurant near Mt.Lavinia railway station. After the party, the participants went to kill the opponent, who resides in Raja Mawatha, Mt.Lavinia, investigations revealed. But the man they were looking for was not at home and then his 83-year-old mother, who lived alone at home, was brutally hacked by the killers, police said.

Investigations are conducted by the OIC Crimes, Inspector Nalaka Alahakoon and the team under the directions of Chief Inspector, OIC, Dileepa C. Perera.
