On Saturday 30th Wesley College rugby XV registered a 31 -12 win over Dharmaraja College in their first round inter school game which helped them to enter the second round Wesley got off to a good start and dominated play in the first half to ead 19-5 at half time.

Wesley ruggerites wasted no time and scored first in the seventh minute of the game, and went on to score 31 points off three goals and two tries against 12 points one goal and one try.

The point scorers for Wesley College were Thrush Jayaweera two tries, , Nithila Rodrigo two tries, Thabeeth Hafiz one and the kicking part was done by Shane Hopwood and Shaveen Jayawardene. For Dharmaraja College Saumiya Wijasiri and Thenuka Wickremasinghe scored a try each and one was goaled by Saumya Wijesiri

Trinity boxers excel

Trinity College boxers made Kandy proud by taking the third place in the 47th L.V Jayaweera All Island schools boxing meet. This event took place at the St. Sylvester’s College boxing ring with 450 boxers from 98 schools around the country in action. In 2019 Trinity College took the second place and this meet was after three years.

TrinityCollege entered the meet with seven talented boxers. This year, due to the high number of boxers each participant had five bouts to complete. All Trinity College boxers were able to win their first round bouts on day one.

By the end of day two they had six boxers still in the ring, which was the highest number of participants along with a few other schools.

Six of the top boxers from Trinity College team managed to enter the quarter finals and out of them three were able to reach the semi-finals.

They were able to win two Gold medals and a Bronze medal. The Gold medalists are Ronal Weerasekara (39 – 41Kg), Salman Faris (46 – 48Kg). Bronze medal was won by Parakrama Sooriyabandara (50 – 52Kg),. Then the Preliminary round winners were Zenel Zakeer (35 – 37Kg), Nethul Hulangamuwa (48 –50kg), Hirun Kularathne ( 54 –56Kg), Malindu Bandara ( 60 – 63.5Kg).

A big hand should go to the principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara for giving big support for boxing and also Lahiru Senaratne coach and Aslam Marikar MIC for the guidance and support to the boxers. Now they are getting ready for the TB Jayah tournament which is going to be held this month.
