Sri-Lanka National Masters Hockey Association will hold its second 9-a-side Masters Hockey league( MHL ) on Sunday , July 17 at the Astro Turf Colombo- 07.
Titled as Nippon Masters Hockey league, the one day tournament will see the participation of 10 Masters Hockey teams comprising mostly former National players across the Country.
Sri-Lanka Masters Gold, Old Ben’s Sports Club, Badulla HA, BRC, and Matale HA, will play in “A” group, while Colombo Malay Cricket Club, Colombo Hockey & Football Club ( CH&FC) , Sri-Lanka Masters Maroon, Old DS Sports Club, and Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club ( CR&FC) will compete in group “B” .
The 23 game tourney will see some of the most talented National players in the game who have done yeoman service for the Country and the game at the young age when when they have represented Sri-Lanka.
The top team from both groups will play in the Cup Final , while the second ranked teams after the round- robin matches will play in the plate final, and the third seeded teams in both groups will vie for the bowl final.
The decision to hold this tournament on July 17, as the Sri-Lanka Masters Hockey team is expected to leave the Country to take part in their second Masters World Cup tournament, which is to be staged in Nottingham, England from August 9 - 21was confirmed by Duncan Devendra , Secretary of the Sri-Lanka National Masters Hockey Association.
This year, Nippon Paint has come forward to Sponsor this tournament and the Sri-Lanka National Masters Hockey Association has to be thankful at a time when the Country is going through an economy crisis to conduct this tournament.
The bowl final is scheduled to be held at 4.30 pm , plare final at 5.00 pm and the Cup final at 5 30 pm.Nemantha Abeysinghe , the Group General Manager of Nippon Lanka Paint ( Pvt )Ltd ,will be the Chief Guest at the Finals.
