Minister to spend Rs.50 mn from personal funds for the people

Investment Promotion Minister Dhammika Perera said he will spend Rs.50 million per month from his personal wealth for the benefit of the people.

The Minister also said that he hopes to help accelerate the service rendered by the Immigration and Emigration Department. He said this while participating in a discussion on a private TV channel.

Perera said he would receive a date in August if he applied for a passport online today. He added that it is difficult to accelerate the process of sending workers for foreign jobs with such delays.

“There is a branch in Matara but there is no One Day Service there. People from Matara also come to Colombo and sleep in boxes. We will soon start the One Day passport service in Matara too. Services in Kandy and Vavuniya will also commence. The President instructed me to open offices in five more provinces. I will use my personal funds as well for such activities” He said such work gets delayed due to tender work and added that he would spend personal money of Rs. 50 million per month to get such work accelerated. An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued detailing institutional and legal framework of Dhammika Perera who was sworn in as the Investment Promotion Minister.

The institutions which come under him are the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, Colombo Port City Economic Commission, Projects related to Colombo Port City, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company, Techno Park Development Company and Information Technology Parks.
