Sri Lanka ‘A’ meets Aussie ‘A’ at SSC today

Sri Lanka ‘A’ will meet Australia ‘A’ in their first ODI which is scheduled to be played today (8) at the SSC grounds. This is going to be a real test for both teams as some of the players are waiting to gain National team slots during this series.

Dhananjaya De Silva the experienced all rounder will lead the Sri Lanka ‘A’ side while wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella, Oshada Fernando are the two other experienced players having played National Test, ODI games earlier .

Sri Lankan A’ team comprised more promising players who have already excelled at the recently concluded Emerging team England tour as well as the National Super League cricket tournament.

The selectors earlier had an idea to add Lahiru Madushanka and Nuwanindu Fernando (both are in National T-20 squad) for the Sri Lanka ‘A’ ODI matches but at the last minute they decided to keep these players with the National T-20 squad.

Lasith Croosepulle and Oshada Fernando most probably will open the innings while Lahiru Udara, Kamindu Mendis, skipper Dhananjaya de Silva will strengthen the middle order. All-rounders Dhananjaya Lakshan, Dunith Wellalage the 19-year-old National youth captain also have a good chance to play this ODI. Dilshan Madushanka, Promod Madushan the two pacemen and leg spinner Pulina Tharanga will get a chance to play in theside. Janith Liyanage the top order batter who played National T-20’s and all rounder Sahan Arachchige and wicket keeper batsman Nishan Madushka also will fight it out to enter the final eleven today.

Meanwhile Australian ‘A’ team so far not not been finalized as they are expected to give experienced National players like paceman Sen Abbott (5 ODI’S), Scott Boalnd (3 Tests and 14 ODI’s), top order batsman Travis Head (26 Tests and 45 ODI’s), wicket keeper batsman Josh Inglis (6 T-20’s) and pacmean Jhye Richardson (3 Tests and 13 ODI’s) for the “A’ side to test them for the National team.

Former National cricketer Avishka Gunawardena (Head coach) and former National opener Charith Senanayake (Manager) give their service for Sri Lanka ‘A’ side. Andre Borovec (Head coach) and former Sri Lanka cricketer Thilan Samaraweera (Assistant coach ) for the Australia ‘A’ team are already with the team. Both teams were scheduled to do training yesterday before the first ODI today while two teams will play their second ODI on June 10 at the same venue SSC grounds followed by two four day games at Hambantota.

Former Australian ODI skipper 30-year-old wicket keeper batsman Alex Carey most probably will lead the Australia 'A' team today. Carey the left hander who played 8 Tests and 48 ODI' s is an experienced player having early experience of leading Australia ODI team while Travis Head is the most experienced player having played 26 Tests and 45 ODI' s are two key players of the Australian A side.
