Junior paddlers excel at South Asian TT Championship

Sri Lankan junior paddlers started with the winning firm when they beat Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal, and Bangladesh at the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship which was played in Male, Maldives, yesterday.

Sri Lankan under 15 boys best Pakistan by 3-0 in the team event while under 14 girls team defeated Maldives 3/0 on an opening day (Monday).

The Girls under 19 team made a 3/1 win over Bangladesh while they lost to string India team 0/3.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan boys under 19 team made a 3/1 win over Nepal while they outclassed with 3/0 over Pakistan.

Dewmeth Weerasena, Janith Batugedera the number 1 and 2 under 15 players played well at the boys’ under 15 events while under 19 girls Bimandee Bandara, Ayla Chitty, Maneesha Shalindi, and under 19 boys’ Chanul Dilshan, Dhanushka Wijesinghe, Thisas Ranchagoda have excelled on the opening game Lesanya Sethumade, Thamadi Kavindya and Imalsha Sewmini won their matches on the first day.

The Sri Lankan team is coached by Lakshan Harshana and Buddhima Dikkumbura during this tour.

The team event consists of two singles and a double game while after this team’s events individual events are to be conducted at this junior event which organised by the South Asian TT Federation in collaboration with Maldives TT Association. (D.R.)
