Sri Lankan junior paddlers for Maldives

Sri Lankan 14 member Junior Table Tennis will leave for Maldives tomorrow to take part in the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship in Male, Maldives from May 9 to 11.

According to a senior official of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) Sri Lanka Junior and Cadet teams will leave for Male to take part in this South Asian Junior and Cadet table tennis championships .The six south Asian countries India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka will use this event for juniors exposure.

India have a strong side while Sri Lankan juniors also have chance of winning the medals.

According to the senior official of the TTASL six paddlers (3 boys and 3 girls ) of the under 15 category and eight paddlers (4 boys and 4 girls) have been selected to take part in this event based on their performance of the trials

Dewmith Weerasena, Janith Batugedera and Diran Harmer are named for the boys under 15 team while Lesanya Sethumadee, Thamadi Kavindya and Imalsha Sewmini have been selected for the girls under 15 team.

Meanwhile Chanul Dilshan, Dhanushka Wijesinghe, Thisas Ranchagoda and Hiruna Warusawithana have been picked for the boys under 19 team while Bimandi Bandara who was the open women's champion at the recently concluded All Island open ranking tournament, Ayla Chitty, Maneesha Shalindi and Sanduni Prabuddhika are in the girls under 19 team Dewmith Weerasena and Lesanya Sethumadee are tipped to be named captains of the under 15 team while Chanul Dilshan and experienced Bimandee Bandara tipped to be named as under 19 team captains.

Buddika Dikkumbura and Lakshan Harshana will accompany the team as coaches while Shamila Manojika de Silva will take part on this tour as lady chaperone.
