Devapathiraja Vidyalaya Ratgama will meet Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda at the Surrey grounds Maggona while Wadduwa Central will clash with Ratnavali BMV Gampaha at Nalanda grounds Campbell Place in their semi-finals of the under 19 Inter-School cricket tournament today (30).
The defending Champions Devapathiraja led by Imesha Dulani have a well balanced side while Anula Vidyalaya captained by Hashini Liyanage also have an equally balanced side and a keen tussle is expected in this semi final. Devapathiraja came to this semi-final with an unbeaten record and advanced to the pre quarter final as champions of their group in the first round. They beat Wadduwa Central, Meegoda MV, Seelarathana MV Dombagoda, Anura Maha Vidyalaya and St. Anthony’s Girls' School Panadura in the first round. The Rathgama lasses beat St. Anthony’s Girls' School Katugastota in the pre quarter final and beat Princess of Wales' College, Moratuwa, in the quarter-final to enter semi-final.
Meanwhile Anula Vidyalaya advanced to the pre quarter final as runner up of their group in the first round. They beat Marapola MV Dharmapala Pannipitiya, Princes of Wales Girl’s School Moratuwa, Newstead Girl’s College Negombo in the first round. However they lost to Rathnawali MBV Gampaha in the first round. Anulians beat Ethiliwewa Maha Vidyalaya Wellawaya in the pre quarter final while they beat Sri Siddhartha MMV Eppawala in the quarter final.
In the second semi final, between Wadduwa Central College and Rathnawali BMV Gampaha at Nalanda College grounds also expected to be a close battle. Rathnawali BMV Captain Vishmi Gunaratne who scored a record knock of 417could be the match winner of the side. She is always leading from the front to build up their innings and Wadduwa MMV is expected to get this opener Vishmi’s prize wicket to make a good challenge.
Wadduwa MMV led by Navodya Nethmini have a good fighting spirit and they are the defending runners up and it will put little bit pressure for them. Wadduwa Central College advanced to the pre quarter final as runner up of their group in the first round. They beat Meegoda MV, Seelarathana MV Dombagoda, Anura Maha Vidyalaya and St. Anthony’s Girl’s School Panadura in the first round. They lost to Devapathiraja College Ratgama in the first round. They beat Dudley Senanayake Central. Tholangamuwa in the pre quarter final. Wadduwa Central beat Vijayabahu Maha Vidyalaya Okkampitiya in the quarter final to enter the semi final.
Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya the unbeaten team advanced to the pre quarter final as champions of their group in the first round. They beat Dharmapala Pannipitiya, Princess of Wales Girl’s School Moratuwa, Newstead Girls Negombo, and Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda in the first round. In the pre-quarter-final, they beat Jayasiripura KV Polonnaruwa while in this game Vishmi Gunaratne made a record-breaking knock of 417. RathnawalI Balika Vidyalaya beat Anura Maha Vidyalaya Matara more comfortably in their low scoring game.
