Two years’ RI and fine for peddling heroin

 

 

 

A man who pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing and trafficking heroin weighing two grams was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined Rs. 35,000 by Provincial High Court Judge Kurunegala Mapa Bandara when the case came up before him yesterday.

Deputy Solicitor General Janith Thilakarathna appearing for the Attorney General informed court that police found the heroin when they searched the van that the suspect was driving and that the suspect does not have previous convictions.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old woman at Gattuwana, Kolapalalikanda, Kurunegala who pleaded guilty to possessing 20 packets of heroin was sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment suspended for one year and was fined Rs. 20,000 by Kurunegala High Court Judge Mapa Bandara.
