SJB, Opposition against selling national assets

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa expressed serious concern over the Government’s plans to sell national assets to foreign entities.

He said selling these valuable properties that could be developed to a greater extent in future for the benefit of people is unbearable and the Samagi Jana

Balawegaya (SJB) will protest strongly against this move in keeping with health guidelines.

The Opposition Leader further said the SJB has also planned to continue their demonstration campaigns with the help of patriot people in the country.

Premadasa recalled how the Government came into power promising the implementation of its election manifesto the ‘Saubagyaye Dakma’. “But now these promises have completely been ignored as the Government has torn its own ‘Saubagyaye Dakma’ manifesto into tatters to achieve their own goals,” he said.

Opposition Leader Premadasa said the selling of country’s major power plant Kerawalapitiya ‘Yugadanavi’ power station is proof of this since this is the first time in a country an agreement was signed by a Government at midnight and this clearly reflects the Government has completely violated the rights of people in that country as everybody knows that according to the agreement 40 per cent shares of this power station is vested with the American company, New Fortress Energy.

He said the SJB vehemently condemns the decision to sell shares of the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi power station to an American based company in a hurry. “This could be regarded as a great betrayal in the Sri Lanka history and people in this country one day will blame the Government for doing such a dirty act,” he said.
