Over 4,000 child abuse complaints in past six months - NCPA

During the past six months of this year, around 4,000 complaints have been received at the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) over child abuse cases, NCPA Chairman Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana said.

Speaking to the Daily News he said about 12,165 cases of child abuse had been reported to the NCPA countrywide during the past 18 months.

“All those complaints are to be investigated and culprits will be severely punished in the future.

Those who need support of the NCPA in such matters can call the hotline no ‘1929’.

During the past six months, about 48,000 calls on child harassment had been received by the NCPA,” he said.
