Abeykoon to run at Silver Meet in Spain

Italy-based Sri Lankan 100m sprinter Yupun Abeykoon will take part in the Madrid 2021Continental Tour Silver Meet in Spain, today.

The meet is important to ensure his Olympic qualifying standards with just 10 days away from the cut-off date to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

“The most important thing is that he should consolidate his position to enter the Olympics,” Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) Recorder Saman Gunawardena told the Daily News yesterday.

“Now he has to do well at this meet to achieve his Olympic -qualifying standard,” he added.

If he qualifies, he would be the first Sri Lankan sprinter after Chinthaka de Zoysa (1996) to compete at the Olympic Games.
