Hockey AGM halted due to a writ order

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation SLHF) was halted due to a writ order obtained from the District Court of Colombo by the President of State Services citing that two of the candidates contesting for the top two posts were non-eligible to contest.

The petitioners have stated that two candidates namely Dharshana Wijesinghe has submitted nominations for the post of President and Secretary along with Kamal Pushpakumara as the President, are not eligible to contest in this elections.

However, when contacted, Maleen Liyanage, President of the State Services said that he is not aware of this issue.

“The hockey AGM was halted due a writ order obtained by the State Services President citing non-eligibility of the two candidates contesting for the presidency and secretary post,” Director General of the Sports Ministry Amal Edirisooriya confirmed to the Daily News yesterday.

“The case is to be taken for hearing on June 4 where the submissions are to be made by us through the Attorney General’s office along with other respondents through their Lawyers, after which further action will be taken,” he added. (AN)
