SLC Charity Match put off due to COVID-19

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday officially announced that the Charity Match between the Sri Lanka Greats XI and Team Sri Lanka scheduled to be played on May 4 at the Pallekele Stadium will not go ahead as planned due to the prevailing health situation in the country.

The Charity Match was aimed at raising funds to help fight against the COVID-19 pandemic but the Management Committee of SLC felt it is more prudent to postpone the game, considering the larger picture of the health situation in the country.

Upul Tharanga tests positive

An official close to SLC said that former National player Upul Tharanga who was named in the Sri Lanka Greats XI has tested positive for COVID-19 after the PCR test and the doctors have already advised all Greats XI players to undergo self quarantine.

Meanwhile, another player who was named in the Team Sri Lanka has been tested positive for COVID-19 and is already undergoing medical treatment.

In addition, four more players are also under quarantine as they were close associates with the said positive player.

SLC also took into consideration the safety of the players, who were expected to take part in the game, taking into consideration the upcoming cricketing commitments of the Sri Lanka National Team.
