Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that there are no obstructions to conduct any sports events or tournaments under the bio-bubble system and with the proper Health Ministry guidelines.

He made these observations during a special media briefing held at the Sports Ministry outdoor premises under the ‘Nuga Tree’ for the first time while keeping in line with the health regulations of the Sports Ministry.

“There are no obstructions to conduct matches especially under the bio-bubble system, which is very successful and we are very close with the Health Ministry to conduct tournaments under their regulations.”

“We started the second Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh yesterday and this will be followed by the Charity T20 match between Sri Lanka Greats XI and Team Sri Lanka on May 4 at the Pallekele Stadium.”

“This match will have a live telecast from 7.00 p.m. and we have already got an income from the TV coverage and these funds will be utilised for the COVID-19 vaccination programme.”

“We are looking forward to conducting the Asia Cup and the LPL matches not only in Hambantota but also at Dambulla, Pallekele and Khettarama.”

“We are also in a good position to host any international sporting event as our bio-bubble system is very successful so far in our country.”

“This time we are planning to give the National Sports Festival hosting chances to separate provinces after discussion with provincial officers.”

“We want to have the National Sports Festival at a high standard and we would have another talent search programme for the athletes.”

“By next week, the National Sports Council has made arrangements to get all Tier two athletes as well to be included to the contracted system.”

“We also have an idea to appoint administrative secretaries for 15 selected sports to focus on winning more medals.”

“Our athletes have shown good form in the recent past and we hope more athletes would reach the Olympic standard,” the Minister added.
