Heralding a new era in the South Asian leisure industry, the region’s most modern and largest international Yacht Marina of the Colombo Port City has been completed.The first project to be completed under the Port City Colombo landscape it will attract over USD 500 million in the next three years.
The Yacht Marina when fully operational will be on a 44 acre land and it will have the facility to anchor 200 yachts making it one of the largest such venues in the region. The area will have a mini yacht repairing facility, duty free terminal, customs and facilities for several other maritime related businesses. “The Colombo Port City will soon call for international tenders for the projects and local companies too will get the opportunity to invest,” said Head of Public Relations at Port City Colombo Kassapa Senarath. Master Divers have already expressed their desire to invest in this to offer maritime related services.
He said that this area will be open for the public as well and already local operators are using this facility for cruises.
A Yacht marina was discussed for over two decades by successive governments for Trincomalee and Galle and several foreign investors signed up agreements. However nothing took off and it’s the Port City which started the project in less than six years.
Port City Colombo is made up of five different precincts which comprises Financial District, Central Park Living, International Island and the Marina comes in the fifth segment, The Marina will add more value for the Island Living concept.Port City Colombo is a brand new city development built as an extension of the existing Colombo CBD with an initial investment of US$1.4 billion and with a projected US$15 billion overall investment when completed.
When completed, Port City Colombo is estimated to have some 5.7 million square meters of build up space, boasting some of the best in design in terms of Grade A offices, medical facilities, educational facilities, integrated resort, marina, retail destinations, hotels and various lifestyle developments.
