A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the SME Business Trust Guarantee Limited, to encourage small and medium scale entrepreneurs under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Youth and Sports in Colombo.
The MoU was signed with the objective of uplifting small and medium scale entrepreneurs for the development of the youth community in the country by the SME Business Trust Guarantee Limited.
Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa said that with the participation of the public and private sector, (Public-Private-Partnership) small and medium scale entrepreneurs could be promoted to the global market by providing them with opportunities and encouragement.
He also pointed that this will help in minimizing the high popularity of Public sector employment opportunities among the younger generation in the country and will be a worthy opportunity for the development of the island.
The Minister said that small scale entrepreneurs should be brought to the middle level and the existing policy framework should be changed and they should be encouraged to come up with new project proposals.
He further said that when creating industrial areas, they should be established outside Colombo and investors should be encouraged to set them up in an eco-friendly manner in different Divisional Secretariat Areas.
Saman Waduge, Additional Secretary (Youth Affairs) of the Ministry, Sudheera Jayaratne, Director of Small Enterprise Development and senior representatives of SME Business Trust Guarantee Limited were also present on the occasion.
