Blues and Wattala BC record victories at MBSL Tourney

Wattala BC and the Blues team each claimed victory over SL Navy and Colombo Spartans, respectively, in the over-35 Men’s preliminary rounds, on day one of the Masters Basketball Tournament conducted by Masters Basketball Sri Lanka (MBSL) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, yesterday. The Blues team won against Colombo Spartans 28-18, while Wattala had it easy finishing with 32 points over SL Navy, who only scored 20.

In the over-50 Men’s preliminary rounds matches, Old Bens pulled off a nerve-tingling 23-22 win over Old Sokians, Ambalangoda after leading 11-10 at the breather, while Police pulled off a 16-10 victory against Carltons Moratuwa, after a 6-all score at half time.

With the participation of 31 teams in the Men’s and Women’s category in the over 35, 40, 45, and 50 age groups are competing in this year’s tournament, which is held after a lapse of one year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. It was great to witness some of the yesteryear players who dominated the game during their era competing in this tournament, which was confronted under strict health guidelines. The tournament will be the kick-start for the other stakeholder of the game to resume their respective tournaments. The tournament is sponsored by Gaja Sports.

Over 35 Men’s - Wattala BC bt. SL Navy 32-20, Blues bt. Colombo Spartans 28-18

Over 40 Men’s - Police bt. Wattala BC 25-14

Over 45 Men’s - Carlton Moratuwa bt. Colombo Nets 25-15, 76ers bt. Untouchable 201-6

Over 50 Men’s - Police bt. Carlton Moratuwa 16-10, Old Bens bt. Old Sokians 23-22.
