Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday the passage of the UNHCR Resolution on Sri Lanka indicates that Sri Lanka is not a puppet of the Western countries.
The present Government headed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa came to power to protect the rights of all communities while safeguarding the nation and not to become a puppet of the West.
Whatever sanctions are imposed on Sri Lanka, the Government is not ready to become a puppet of any country,” he added.
The Minister made these remarks in response to various statements made by Opposition members, Tamil political parties and other parties on the passing of resolution tabled against Sri Lanka at the 46th UN Human Rights Council sessions.
We cannot accept the various false statements made by the Opposition, Tamil political parties and various political parties on the adoption of resolution by UNHRC against Sri Lanka. They are engaged in deceiving people through these fabricated false,” he added.
Although the previous Yahapalana Government was subservient to the West and co-sponsored the UNHRC Resolution, this Government is always on the side of the people and acts to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the Motherland and communal harmony among the people.
