More decommissioned buses to become mobile libraries

Buses which have been decommissioned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board will be equipped with all facilities.and turned into modern school libraries. Twenty rural schools across the country were provided with these libraries under this programe called "From the Bus to the Future".

Under the first stage, five schools were provided with these library buses.

These library buses will contain reading facilities, WiFi connectivity and other such support systems ready to enable children to connect with the information world.

Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge said The children of The country are the future of tomorrow and thus, empowering them towards enhancing their literacy and inculcating into them the habit of reading and educating themselves was a key factor to implement this project. Therefore, providing students, especially from rural areas with access to reading materials through a fully-equipped mobile library through is a welcome move, he said.

State Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama said schools in rural areas which do not have libraries, will benefit from this programme.

The project will renovate 30 more buses and transform them into modern, fully-equipped mobile libraries which would provide students with reading facilities, access to wi-fi connectivity and other support systems giving children the opportunity to connect with the world.
