Bus passenger remanded for heroin possession

The driver of a bus and another passenger arrested for transporting 'ice' from Colombo to Matara who were produced before Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela were released on a surety of Rs.200,000 each, while another passenger was remanded until March 29 for the possession of heroin.

The two suspects released are from Polwatta, Galle and Weragama, Wadduwa while the suspect who was remanded is from Bandaranayake Pura, Kekanadurra and Matara.

Police made the detection last Saturday evening, after raiding a bus at the Galle bus stand on a tip-off. On seeing the Police officers, a passenger threw a parcel out of the bus. The passenger was arrested and the bus was taken to the Police station.

Subsequently, Police discovered the 'ice' drug concealed in the driver's trousers and the heroin in the possession of the other two passengers. A team of Police officers led by Galle Police Crime Investigation Division OIC CI Dinesh Nishantha led the raid. Sergeant Madanayake prosecuted.
