The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to further promote trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Hongkong will be organizing a Webinar on “Business and Investment Opportunities for Sri Lanka in Hong Kong and Beyond” on 10th March 2021 at 11.20 a.m. via MS Teams. This would be an ideal opportunity for the companies interested in penetrating the country with over 7.5 million populations and the gateway to Macau Islands and China. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is the seventh-largest in the world, with a market capitalisation of HK$30.4 trillion (US$3.87 trillion) as of December 2018 and the tenth-largest trading entity in exports and imports (2017). Over half of its cargo throughput consists of transshipments (goods travelling through Hong Kong). Products from mainland China account for about 40 per cent of that traffic. Hong Kong is part of the Maritime Silk Road that runs from the Chinese coast via the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean, there to the Upper Adriatic region of Trieste with its rail connections to Central and Eastern Europe.
