Sri Lanka Para Athlete Gamini Ekanayake won a Silver Medal on the penultimate day of the World Para Athletic Grand Prix Meet continued in Dubai, UAE, yesterday.

Ekanayake produced a fine performance to secure second place with an effort of 58.55m while competing in the Men’s Javelin Throw event.

With this performance, Ekanayake qualified to participate in the Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Para Athlete Kumudu Priyanka had to be satisfied with fourth place in the Women’s 100m F/46/47 event.

This was Priyanka’s personal best, but yet it was not good enough for her to qualify for the Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, according to Colonel Deepal Herath, Manager of the Sri Lanka Team.

Priyanka finished with a time of 13.30s to secure fourth place, while Czech Republic athlete Tereza Jakschova won the Gold Medal with a time of 12.95s, followed by Lanza Angenia of France (13.02s) and Pagirapom Gagun of Thailand (13.17s).

Sampath Hettiarachchi and Gamini Ekanayake (Javelin Throw), Palitha Bandara (Shot Put), and Saman Subasinghe (400m) are the other competitors who are vying for Paralympics qualification.
